  Eligibility of Crop Varieties for Certification

        Seed of only those varieties, which are notified under section 5 of the seeds Act, 1966, shall be eligible for certification.

Precautions to be taken at the time of Seed Sowing
  •      That the proper approachable fields should be selected for raising seed crop.

  •     Fields shall be free of volunteer plants.

  •     Certified Seed from one bag should not be distributed to the other growers in case of Hybrid Seeds specially.

  •     Ensure that the Tags, Labels, seed containers, purchase/sale records etc. should be kept carefully for seed source verification.

  •      Prescribed isolation distances must be provided.

  •      Seed drill, which is being used, for sowing must be carefully cleaned before sowing to avoid mixing with other seeds. keep one line without sowing to perform the cultural and rouging operations conveniently.

Cultural operations for Raising good Seed Crop

  •      Optimum doses of fertilizers, insecticides and weedicides be applied in the seed crop.

  •      Required irrigation and weeding operations be performed time to time, Otherwise seed crop can be rejected due to heavy weeds.

  •      Do not use such chemicals, which are harmful to the seed quality.

  •      Under the seed production programme mixed cropping is not permissible. However intercropping will be applicable to oilseeds and pulses crops only for certified seed class. The permissible crop combination may be used like soybean with Arhar.

  •      It should be ensured that the off types of the seed crops must be roughed out.

  •      Plants affected with the seed born diseases like loose smut in wheat should be removed from the field.

  •      For harvesting of Seed crop do not use such equipments, which cannot prevent mixture and cut seeds more than 5%.

  •      Seed produce should be properly stored in cleaned bags with the identity of crop, variety, class and registration numbers etc.

  •      Ensure that the seed should reach to the processing centre before the cut off dates fixed by the agency.

 PHASES OF CERTIFICATION
  •  Verification of seed source.

  •   Field inspection.

  •   Seed Processing and testing,

  •    Tagging, Sealing and issuance of Certificate. 

Verification of Seed Source

        The individual under the seed certification programme shall submit one or more relevant evidence to the certification Agency, such as Certification Tag, Labels, Purchase Records etc. during submission of application or during first inspection of the crop as may be demanded by the Agency.
